Find out how your legacy can help change cancer forever
LONDON, ON, May 29, 2013 /CNW/ - Cancer is now the single largest killer in Canada - overtaking heart disease for the first time in 2011. As part of its plan to change the course of cancer, the Canadian Cancer Society recently launched its Legacy Planning Campaign in London, Ontario. A series of events in the city will highlight the impact that legacy planning has on the fight against cancer.
This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the Canadian Cancer Society and while great advancements have been made, such as the development of more effective cancer treaments, there is still much to be done. Planned giving has a significant impact on the fight against cancer. A future gift arranged through an estate plan to the Canadian Cancer Society ensures a donor's legacy will be dedicated towards creating a future where no Canadian fears cancer.
"For 75 years, the Canadian Cancer Society has developed a powerful legacy of funding leading-edge cancer research, advocacy and support of Canadians living with cancer, but more challenges lie ahead," says Tony Lee, Director of Leadership Philanthropy for the Canadian Cancer Society., "Legacy gifts have played a large part in our previous accomplishments and we are inviting people touched by cancer to learn how they can continue this legacy."
The events and promotions offered by the Society to Londoners include: an opportunity to have a Will written or updated free of charge through a local lawyer from May 22-June 7, an Estate Planning Seminar on May 28, and an Evening of Information, Inspiration & Transformation with CBC Radio Host Dr. Brian Goldman and singer-songwriter Dan Hill on May 31.
By inviting the community and those touched by cancer to participate in one or all three of these events, the Canadian Cancer Society is hoping that Londoners embrace how simple it is to contribute to a cause they believe in and have their gift make a lasting impact on the lives of Canadians touched by cancer. The Legacy Planning Campaign provides the opportunity to make a difference to change cancer forever.
