First Estimate of Advance Voter Turnout for the Provincial By-Elections in Kitchener-Waterloo and Vaughan Français
TORONTO, Sept. 4, 2012 /CNW/ - For the provincial by-elections in the Electoral Districts of Kitchener-Waterloo and Vaughan, voters were provided several easy ways to cast their ballot in advance of election day, September 6, 2012. Advance voting opportunities included the option to vote by Special ballot by mail, in person at the local returning office or by home visit along with the choice to vote over 7 days of advance polls.
As of September 3, preliminary figures indicated that 6154 electors in the Electoral District of Kitchener-Waterloo and 2575 electors in the Electoral District of Vaughan have cast their ballot for the upcoming provincial by-elections. In the last general election in the Electoral District of Kitchener-Waterloo 6740 ballots were cast in advance, while in the Electoral District of Vaughan, 4570 ballots were cast in advance.
Advance voting began on August 9, the day after the election was called. Electors could apply to vote by Special ballot and vote at their local returning office, by mail or by home visit. Area advance polls opened on August 25 and returning offices operated as additional advance polls on August 26. Advance polls closed on August 31.
Eligible electors can still vote in advance of election day at the local returning office by Special ballot or by using the Assistive Voting Technology until September 5 at 6 p.m.
Election day is on Thursday, September 6, where there will be more than 1600 election workers at more than 159 voting locations across the Electoral Districts of Kitchener-Waterloo and Vaughan. Voters are encouraged to visit the Elections Ontario website to find out where, when and how to vote.
