MONTREAL, Sept. 29, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Saputo won the first edition of the Centraide Cup charity tournament today after hard-fought rounds of exciting soccer matches between 25 major companies from the Montreal business sector. The $250,000 raised from the competition will go to Centraide's cause and the fight against poverty and social exclusion.
The teams that faced off in the final were Saputo and Aon Hewitt, with a score of 3 to 1.
The other companies that competed were: Laurentian Bank, National Bank, Scotiabank, BMO Financial Group, Bombardier, CIBC, Desjardins, Dessau, Ferreira Café, SNC-Lavalin, Hydro-Québec, Industrial Alliance, Intact Insurance, The Jean Coutu Group, Pharmascience, Pratt & Whitney Canada, Québecor/TVA Sports, RBC Royal Bank, Rolls-Royce Canada, Samson Bélair/Deloitte & Touche, Sobeys, Standard Life and TD Canada Trust.
The money raised from the soccer tournament will go towards Centraide's 2012 fundraising campaign, which will be officially launched on October 3 at the 21st March of 1,000 Umbrellas. Close to 20,000 people are expected to fill the streets of downtown Montreal for the event. The theme of this year's campaign is "Donating is uplifting."
About the Montreal Impact
The Montreal Impact is the city's professional soccer team. The club came to be in 1993 and now has four teams under its umbrella (pros, Under-21, Under-18 and Under-16), as well as its own sport-etudes program.
