First major investment in the world of SMEs during the pandemic in Quebec: ALI Excavation of Valleyfield acquires Les Carrières Sylvio Galipeau inc. of St-Stanislas-de-Kotska and embarks on a plan of growth Français
VALLEYFIELD, QC, June 8, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ - After almost 15 months of talks and negotiations, ALI Excavation Inc. has completed the acquisition of one of the most reputed quarries in the greater Montreal region, Les Carrières Sylvio Galipeau inc., located on Route 132 in the St-Stanislas-de-Kotska area, a stone's throw from Valleyfield.
This news was announced today by the President and Chief Executive Officer of ALI Excavation, Marc-André Loiselle, who indicated that this strategic acquisition was the result of a long-time cooperation between these two family businesses, a collaboration that dates back more than 30 years.
"This acquisition is much more than a simple business transaction, insofar as it provides the company with operational autonomy essential to the continuation of ALI Excavation's growth plans in the civil works sector. Under the Quebec Infrastructure Plan, which will offer market opportunities of $130 billion by 2030, the civil works sector is expected to experience tremendous growth," said Mr. Loiselle, maintaining that under its new corporate structure, ALI Excavation, as a company with integrated operations, now has the latitude necessary to successfully navigate the current business climate.
This transaction, the amount of which has not been disclosed for reasons of confidentiality and competition, will allow the company to have full control over its supply of high-quality resources and raw materials, as this exceptional site produces several categories of aggregates for a variety of uses—in this case, the construction of highways and access roads, the construction of industrial and residential buildings, and the supply of inputs for the manufacture of cement and bituminous concretes. ALI Excavation therefore becomes a company with integrated operations, placing it in a favourable competitive position, continued Mr. Loiselle, adding that these resources will continue to be exploited with a view to sustainable development.
"In terms of synergy, this transaction had become an essential and natural next step, insofar as it caps three decades of mutually profitable and satisfactory cooperation," explained the President of Les Carrières Sylvio Galipeau inc., Maxim Galipeau.
Mr. Galipeau, who indicated he was happy to be able to continue working within the new organization for the next few years, will occupy the position of General Manager of Quarry Operations during, and following, the transition. In this role, he will oversee the complex crushing, sieving and stone washing activities that are essential for the delivery of high-quality products meeting the highest standards in the industry.
ALI Excavation's annual turnover will pass the $100M mark during the coming year and the company's total staff will reach 225 employees, whose prospects for maintaining off-season employment will significantly increase in the context of integrated operations, not to mention that their opportunities for career advancement will improve accordingly. For the president of ALI Excavation, as a major employer in the Valleyfield region, the economic spinoffs of the company's activities, which represent tens of millions of dollars, are essential to improving the local and regional economy.
"This transaction is part of the company's constant search for growth and sustainability, in a spirit of economic harmonization and continuity in the community, above all," concluded Marc-André Loiselle, adding that a new leader in this industry has been born, one that constitutes a great legacy to the up-and-coming generations of the two families, who are now united in one large organization.
