First Numbers Are in for the 10th Guignolée du Dr Julien: 550 000 $ - Successful Charity Drive to Continue Until January 15th 2013

MONTREAL, Dec. 16, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Quebecers strongly renewed their support to the cause of vulnerable children yesterday by making the 10^th Guignolée du Dr Julien one of the most successful ever. The Fondation du Dr Julien's fundraising campaign has raised $550 000 so far, compared to the results of last year's Guignolée which tallied $508,000 around the same time last year. To this tally, one can add donations received in kind (books, toys, sport equipment, etc.), which will also bring joy to families these Holidays.

"It is a huge satisfaction to know that people are always eager to help kids in our communities, year after year. This popular support motivates us to go on and proves how important our mission with Québec's vulnerable children is. We must continue our efforts as there are still huge needs", declares Dr. Gilles Julien, Founder and President of the Fondation du Dr Julien.

The Fondation du Dr Julien wishes to thank the 500 volunteers who have participated in the 10^th Guignolée du Dr Julien, as well as its partners, both event spokespersons, Ève Christian and Christian Bégin, and finally the whole "Samedi et Rien d'Autre" team, a radio show hosted by Joël Le Bigot and broadcasted live from the Guignolée on Radio-Canada's Première chaîne.

Community Social Pediatrics Movement Day

December 15th also marked Community Social Pediatrics Movement Day in Québec, an initiative supported by Dr Julien. Eleven community social pediatrics centers located elsewhere in Montréal (South-Center, Montréal-North, Saint-Laurent, and Verdun) and in the province (Berthierville, Gatineau, Laval, Lévis, Québec, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Trois-Rivières), held their annual Guignolée on the same date. As those other centers are self-financed, locally collected funds will be used to support activities in their own communities and give less fortunate kids an opportunity to thrive all year round.

About the Guignolée du Dr Julien

The Guignolée du Dr Julien collects donations for the Fondation du Dr Julien, a non-profit organization helping more than 2000 kids and their families through its two community social pediatrics centers, the Assistance d'enfants en difficulté (AED) in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and the Centre de services préventifs à l'enfance (CSPE) in Côte-des-Neiges. Services provided include medical, psychosocial, psycho-educational or educational intervention, as well as stimulation workshop for kids, support group meetings for parents, art therapy, ergotherapy, music therapy, and various other sport and cultural activities (summer camps, music courses, theatre, shows, etc.).
