TORONTO, May 9, 2012 /CNW/ - Summer won't arrive for a few more weeks, but the summer season at Global begins next week and the line-up promises to be a hot one. Intensity is the common thread, whether it's on the beat in the city, on stage in the spotlight or lapping up the rewards as "Head of the House."
This season's heat wave begins under the lights for season two of Canada Sings, making its premiere Tuesday, May 15th - 10pm ET/PT. With a bold new look, judges Rob Van Winkle (aka Vanilla Ice) and Jann Arden are joined by new judge Laurieann Gibson, choreographer for stars like Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson and Nicki Minaj. The home-grown series is hosted by ET Canada's Matte Babel and showcases the blood, sweat and tears that ensue when ordinary workmates train to be glee club performers and compete to win $25,000 for the charity of choice.
Moving from one stage to another, Duets makes its Global debut on Thursday, May 24th - 8pm ET/PT. Duets is hosted by Quddus ("Total Request Live") and stars the music industry's biggest Superstars. Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, and Robin Thicke individually set out on a journey across America looking for undiscovered talent worthy to be their "Duet" partner. Ultimately, each Superstar will choose two singers to be their duet partners. Together, the Superstar and their partner will take to the stage each week and perform in front of a live studio audience. In the end, only one duet will be at the top of the charts and the winning amateur will receive a recording contract with Hollywood Records.
Fans have been clamouring for the return of Rookie Blue, and season three won't disappoint with the first episode starring William Shatner on Thursday, May 24th - 10pm ET/PT in simulcast with ABC. This season, the rookies may appear to be better on the job, but there'll be plenty of "bumps in the road" to make their lives difficult and the plots interesting. They learn that experience isn't everything and that the boundaries between who they are as cops and who they are as people are not as black and white as they once believed.
Walking the city streets means something completely different for the cast members of Global's Dogs In The City, launching Wednesday, May 30th - 8pm ET/PT. This canine reality series stars New York City dog guru Justin Silver, a master at resolving issues between canines and their owners - no matter whose behaviour is at fault. In each episode, Silver meets with clients who present a range of relationship problems, lifestyle changes or domestic issues - from a couple looking to move in together, but she's terrified of his golden retriever, to a recently divorced couple whose dog is having a rough time adjusting to joint custody.
Building on the success of the award-winning, international sensation Glee, Global takes on the musical rollercoaster of a competition with season two of The Glee Project premiering Wednesday, June 6th - 9pm ET/PT After being selected from over 40,000 applicants, 12 talented contenders vie for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win a seven episode guest-starring role on the smash-hit Glee. The 10-episode competition series kicks off the season with a special two-hour premiere event that showcases the behind-the-scenes casting of the talented top 12 through to the first contender to be sent home.
Julie Chen returns as host for the 14th season of in-fighting and intrigue in the wildly popular Big Brother. Back on Global starting Thursday, July 12th - 9pm ET/PT, the three-times-a-week reality series throws together a diverse group of competitive contestants who take over the house for a shot at the $500,000 grand prize. Follow up episodes will air Sundays - 8pm ET/PT and Wednesdays - 8pm ET/PT with someone evicted every Thursday night at 9pm ET/PT. Those who want even more Big Brother can go to Global Reality Channel for exclusive access to Big Brother After Dark, weeknights - 12 midnight ET starting July 12th, an uncut and commercial free look at what happens when the lights go out.
Global's hot summer line-up also includes the only show in which teen 'faves' take the stage to accept superstar status at the annual Teen Choice Awards. Sunday, July 22nd - 8pm ET/PT, celebrity hosts and presenters will honour this year's brightest achievements in entertainment.
Thursday July 26th - 8pmET/PT, the show that brings new meaning to the word "pratfall" returns to cause a little more mayhem. Wipeout is back for its fifth season featuring creative additions to the world's largest extreme and incredibly challenging obstacle course. Hosts John Anderson and John Henson provide running commentary as contestants compete for the $50,000 grand prize.
