MONTREAL, March 5, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) reminds its customers that the Yellow line of the metro will be completely closed every Saturday and Sunday, from this weekend until May 25, due to work being carried out on the tunnel's vaulted ceiling, as announced this past December.
A second phase of weekend closures is also planned for the fall, between September 13 and December 14. To mitigate the effect of the closures, the STM is instituting three round-trip shuttle routes that will offer the same level of service as the Yellow line:
804 Longueuil - Papineau - Berri-UQAM
Frequency:
From 5:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.: every 10 to 20 minutes
From 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.: every 3 to 5 minutes
From 11:30 p.m. to the end of service: every 10 to 20 minutes
In service from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Saturdays and from 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Sundays
820 Longueuil - Jean-Drapeau
Frequency: every 15 minutes
In service from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Saturdays and from 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Sundays
877 Berri-UQAM - Papineau - Jean-Drapeau - Montréal Casino
Frequency:
From 5:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.: every 23 minutes
From 11 a.m. to the end of service: every 12 minutes
In service from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Saturdays and from 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Sundays
During all closure weekends - a total of 25 in 2014 - STM staff will be on site at Berri-UQAM, Papineau and Longueuil-Université-de-Sherbrooke stations to direct customers and answer their questions.
To provide as many alternatives as possible for customers heading from the South Shore to downtown Montréal, two additional options are available for travel towards the Terminus Centre-ville, which gives access to Bonaventure metro station.
Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) service
Express 90 Chevrier: Stationnement Chevrier - Terminus Centre-ville (TCV)
Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) service
45 Express: Terminus Brossard-Panama - Terminus Centre-ville (TCV)
The Yellow line project involves repairing concrete along a section of the vaulted ceiling that has experienced some groundwater infiltration over the years, as well as channelling that water and performing electrical work. The $10-million refurbishment is being carried out under the Réno-Infrastructures program and is 75% financed by Québec's Ministère des Transports.
