Mac owners rejoice! Today, Montreal-based FixMeStick, fresh off the heels of a thrilling 5 for 5 performance in the Dragons' Den last week, has achieved 40% of its target to fund the first ever, virus removal device for Mac computers.
What makes this product unique?
As Mac computers continue to grow in popularity, they have become attractive targets for cyber-criminals. The FixMeStick for Mac is a bootable USB device that simplifies the detection and removal of infections that got past anti-virus protection software (watch the FixMeStick scanning a Macbook Air).
"We launched the FixMeStick for PC in May of 2012. In April 2012 the news came out that 1 in every 100 Mac computers were infected with the Flashback virus," says co-founder Corey Velan. "We've received customer requests every day since for a FixMeStick for Mac."
FixMeStick Technologies Inc., a Canadian startup that designs, develops, and sells virus detection\removal devices, is undertaking a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to support manufacturing of their new product, the FixMeStick for Mac. FixMeStick Technologies hopes to raise $50,000 with the 30-day-long campaign. Supporters are being offered big savings on the virus removal device.
Security and privacy are priorities for everyone, whether they use a PC or a Mac," said John Reumann, Director of Worldwide Sales at ThreatTrack Security. "As they become more appealing targets for hackers and cyber-criminals, Mac users will have peace of mind knowing they knowing they can detect and remove malware with the FixMeStick for Mac."
About FixMeStick Technologies
Headquartered in Montreal, FixMeStick Technologies is a private company, founded by two IT security veterans, Marty Algire and Corey Velan. The company's namesake product is a Linux-based device that runs before the computer's operating system boots, enabling it to clean the computer before the malware starts. It contains anti-virus technologies from three industry leaders: Kaspersky Labs, Sophos, and ThreatTrack Security, integrated behind a single full-screen application. The FixMeStick is set up and ready to go right out of the box. No additional installation is required and automatic updates are stored directly on the device.
