Sun Life Global Investments appoints NWQ Investment Management Company, LLC for a new way to access income opportunities
TORONTO, Feb. 3, 2014 /CNW/ - Retail investors continue to search for solutions that can help them meet their investment goals in today's low interest rate environment. To respond to this challenge, Sun Life Global Investments (Canada) Inc. today launched the Sun Life NWQ Flexible Income Fund, sub-advised by NWQ Investment Management Company, LLC (NWQ), a research-driven manager located in Los Angeles, California. The new high-yield income fund is geared towards retail investors looking for monthly fixed distributions from a mandate that seeks to achieve income and capital appreciation by investing primarily in a diversified portfolio of income producing securities.
NWQ seeks to maintain a competitive internal yield while maximizing risk adjusted returns, through the selection of securities that may provide higher current income and capital appreciation potential. NWQ aims to select investments at the optimal point of a company's capital structure—equity, preferred stock, or debt—where the combination of risk management, sustainability of income and return potential may offer the greatest opportunity.
"Given the current fixed income environment and perpetually low interest rates, investors are looking for ways to diversify their income portfolios," says Sadiq S. Adatia, Chief Investment Officer, Sun Life Global Investments. "NWQ adds to our suite of strong income fund managers in addition to offering our customers new potential to help enhance yield."
The Sun Life NWQ Flexible Income Fund adds to Sun Life Global Investments' growing investment platform which has expanded to include 53 mutual funds in just over three years. Sun Life Global Investments oversees $7.2 billion in client assets under management as of December 31, 2013. The growth of Sun Life Global Investments builds on Sun Life Financial's focus to expand its wealth management business in Canada.
The new income fund will be available through Sun Life Financial advisors, and Mutual Fund Dealers Association (MFDA) and Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) dealers. The Sun Life NWQ Flexible Income Fund will also be part of the Sun Life Managed Income Portfolio and Sun Life Managed Enhanced Income Portfolio.
Commissions, trailing commissions, management fees and expenses all may be associated with mutual fund investments. Please read the prospectus before investing. Mutual funds are not guaranteed, their values change frequently and past performance may not be repeated. The payment of distributions is not guaranteed and may fluctuate. The payment of distributions should not be confused with a fund's performance, rate of return, or yield. If distributions paid by the fund are greater than the performance of the fund, then the original investment will shrink. Distributions paid as a result of capital gains realized by a fund and income and dividends earned by a fund are taxable for the investor in the year they are paid. Investor's adjusted cost base will be reduced by the amount of any returns of capital. If the adjusted cost base goes below zero, then investors will have to pay capital gains tax on the amount below zero.
