Floods in Pierrefonds-Roxboro - Very appreciated aid offers which will be used at the appropriate time Français
PIERREFONDS-ROXBORO, QC, May 8, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Over the past few days, the borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro has received numerous calls from people or organizations wishing to help citizens affected by the major floods affecting the sector.
The mayor of the borough, Mr. Dimitrios (Jim) Beis, said he was very touched by this huge generosity, but stated that, given the extent of the floods and the dangers present in the area, the borough has decided to register the names and contact information of those who offered their assistance, and to contact them at the appropriate time.
"I warmly thank all the people who, for the last few days, have contacted the borough to express their solidarity with the citizens of Pierrefonds-Roxboro, generously offering their time and energy to help the victims. However, the situation at the present time is such that it is impossible to ensure the safety of people on the ground. In the circumstances, we must be cautious and therefore are relaying on our municipal staff, SIM, SPVM and the Canadian Armed Forces teams who are trained and experienced to respond to emergencies", said Mr. Beis.
However, Mr. Beis wants to reassure the people who volunteered their services that their help is welcome and will be used in due course. He took the opportunity to launch an appeal for solidarity on behalf of the affected families who will necessarily need support and assistance to return to normalcy. "We will not let our fellow citizens rise up alone from this terrible ordeal. We plan to organize a big chore to help them, and it is at this point that the support offered will be taken into advantage", he said.
People or organizations wishing to volunteer can register at the following address: [email protected]. Information already received has been retained.
