Foresters Golf Tournament raises $100,000 in support of family well-being
Golfers tee off to raise funds for McMaster Children's Hospital and Prostate Cancer Canada
TORONTO, June 18, 2014 /CNW/ - More than 140 golfers hit the links yesterday for Foresters Annual Golf Tournament in King City, ON raising $100,000 in support of McMaster Children's Hospital and Prostate Cancer Canada. Foresters, an international financial services provider committed to the well-being of families and communities, has a rich tradition of caring and supporting charities which benefit families.
"Foresters purpose is to enhance the well-being of families," said Tony Garcia, president and chief executive officer, Foresters. "All funds raised during our Annual Golf Tournament go directly to supporting McMaster Children's Hospital and Prostate Cancer Canada, organizations dedicated to providing specialized care, support and research for health issues that affect millions of Canadian families each year. I am grateful for the generosity of our co-presenting sponsors, CGI and MajescoMastek™ and all the participants for helping make this event a great success."
The tournament, held at the King Valley Golf Club, drew teams of foursomes from Foresters business partners across the greater Toronto area, Foresters employees and sales associates.
Half of the proceeds from the tournament will benefit McMaster Children's Hospital. A member of Children's Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals, McMaster Children's Hospital is one of the top pediatric academic health science centres in Canada and serves a community of 2.3 million people from south central Ontario and beyond. Since 1990, Foresters has helped raise more than half a billion dollars for local children's hospitals in Canada and the US through its partnership with CMN Hospitals, a non-profit organization that raises funds for over 170 children's hospitals across North America.
"McMaster Children's Hospital is delighted that Foresters has made this extraordinarily generous gift that will help us complete a very special project - the creation of an outdoor playground," said Jennifer Laughton, vice president development, McMaster Children's Hospital Foundation. "The playground will bring hope and healing to children we have the privilege to care for as well as their families who love and support them while they're in care."
Foresters will also be donating $50,000 to Prostate Cancer Canada, the only national foundation dedicated to the fight against prostate cancer, a disease affecting millions of men and their families each year. Prostate Cancer Canada develops programs related to awareness, public education, advocacy, support of those affected and research into the prevention, detection, treatment and cure of prostate cancer.
"We're honoured to be the recipients of such a generous gift," said Rocco Rossi, President and CEO, Prostate Cancer Canada. "The money raised helps us fund vital research to uncover better diagnostic and treatment options and to provide comprehensive support services for the men - and their families- facing prostate cancer."
