VANCOUVER, Nov. 17 /CNW/ - The Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia (CGA-BC) is pleased to announce that a new leadership award was bestowed posthumously to former Executive Director Bill Caulfield, CGA (Hon.) who passed away in early 2010.
The R.W. Caulfield Award for Leadership was created to recognize the unique contributions and bold vision of Bill Caulfield. As leader of the province's largest professional accounting Association, he was a driving force in B.C., elevating the professional status of CGA and assisting affiliates across Canada to achieve similar prominence.
His bold and innovative use of high profile marketing campaigns brought our Association to prominence in British Columbia. His vision extended to the use of technology, enabling the integration of computers into the CGA curriculum and ensuring that CGA-BC was an early adopter of technologies in its business practices.
This award was conceived to celebrate and honour those who exhibit leadership and insight. Future recipients of this award will be leaders who encourage others and demonstrate bold thinking. They will be known as ethical role models, setting the highest standards of integrity. They must be recognized as visionary leaders in their organization, public service, public office, or community activities.
As the province's largest professional accounting association, CGA-BC represents more than 14,000 CGAs and students. Members work in industry, commerce, government and in public practice. The Association promotes the excellence of its members and advances the accounting profession through education, certification and the protection of the public interest.
CGA-BC has a well-earned reputation as a self-governing professional organization that is responsible for regulating its members. CGA-BC leads the profession in the integration of ethics into its academic program, and has now introduced a rules and standards course for all new graduates of the CGA program to complement an ongoing ethics requirement for members.
The Association also offers a wide range of employment services and programs to its members, students and the business community. These services include CGAjobs.org, a job postings website for finance and accounting professionals, and the Partners in Employment Program (PEP), which recognizes organizations that provide an effective working and training environment for CGAs and CGA students.
