TORONTO, Sept. 21 /CNW/ - Former CNN Headline News anchor Lynne Russell has been named Storyteller-In-Residence at Centennial College. She will be working with Centennial students and faculty, as well as joint-program University of Toronto students, to help produce journalists who understand their responsibility as the objective eyes and ears of the news-consuming public.
For 18 years Russell was the first woman to solo anchor a daily evening network newscast in North America. During her time at CNN, she developed a following of viewers who admire her objective, authoritative delivery and her non-conformist on-air personality and demeanor. Today, she provides commentary on Bill O'Reilly's The O'Reilly Factor broadcast on the Fox News Channel. Her weekly radio talk show, based in Toronto, has a broad audience from both countries, streamed live on www.newstalk1010.com.
Russell hosted the first U.S. cable-in-the-classroom project, when her CNN Week in Review was introduced in schools. She was the first recipient of the Russell P. Jandoli "Excellence in Journalism Award" presented by St. Bonaventure University of Western New York. Before CNN, Lynne anchored and reported investigative, general and medical assignments at television and radio stations from Florida to Hawaii, and also programmed talk radio in several large markets.
Russell will be interacting with students in the programs taught at Centennial's Centre for Creative Communications in East York. The Centre is dedicated to educating and training tomorrow's communications professionals via interactive storytelling: writing, production and visual communication. Established in 1994, The Centre offers various award-winning programs, including art and design, advertising and public relations, journalism and publishing and integrated media.
