MONTRÉAL, Oct. 21, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The Ville de Montréal is pleased to confirm that the third edition of the FIA Formula E Championship will culminate in Montréal on July 29 and 30, 2017. The eprix Montréal Race will take place in the heart of the Ville-Marie borough at the height of celebrations marking Montréal's 375th anniversary.
"Montréal has everything it takes to host a formula electric race: a festive city, a city with a reputation for staging high-quality major international events, and above all a city that's undertaken a determined shift towards electrification. And this race is the perfect showcase for those efforts. Once again, Montréal will act as a forerunner and a leader. Taking part in the third year of a new race circuit, which will only grow in stature in years to come, demonstrates that we're not afraid to try new things and that we act on our intentions. It sends a clear message that we believe in the potential of this race and in Montréal's potential to make it a model for all the others. But it also highlights our continued efforts to initiate a shift towards the electrification of transportation," said Montréal Mayor Denis Coderre.
Montréal c'est électrique!, a non-profit organization presided over by Sylvain Vincent, is also among the organizations associated with the event, which promises to be festive and family-friendly and is sure to appeal to the city's legions of car racing fans. Montréal, c'est électrique!'s mission goes beyond Formula E. Our organization was created to spark public interest in the noble and necessary objective of transportation electrification. The Ville de Montréal is firmly committed to meeting this objective, and the arrival of Formula E will truly showcase our efforts in this regard. This racing series is where sustainable development meets performance, and we're very proud that our city will host the final race in the 2017 championship," said Montréal, c'est électrique President Sylvain Vincent.
In order to make this fabulous idea of an urban, electric, festive and family-friendly race a reality, Montréal c'est électrique! has entrusted the organization of the event to evenko, in collaboration with the Formula Electric teams. This in itself is a guarantee of quality and success. "evenko is proud to be involved as a manager and promoter of this great and unifying Formula E event," said Jacques Aubé, Executive Vice-President and General Manager of evenko. "It's an honour to place our expertise at the service of the Montréal community and to play a part in promoting Montréal's reputation on the world stage. The evenko team and all our partners will work in close collaboration in order to create a large-scale event that's sure to please Montrealers, Quebecers and visiting tourists alike."
Alexandre Taillefer, Managing Partner at XPND Capital and founder of Taxelco, also agreed to serve as honorary president of the first edition.
The urban race course will be set up around the installations at Société Radio-Canada, one of the event's collaborators. The race will start in an eastbound direction along boulevard René-Lévesque, between rue Panet and rue Plessis, will include 14 curves over 2.75 km, and at specific points along the course, drivers will reach top speeds of 265 km/h. A word of thanks also goes out to Tourisme Montréal for its collaboration.
