Fort Wellington National Historic Site officially opens for the summer visitor season on May 20 Français

PRESCOTT, ON, May 19, 2023 /CNW/ - The vast network of protected areas administered by Parks Canada is a gateway to nature, history, and 450 000 km² of stories from coast to coast to coast.
Starting on May 20, Fort Wellington National Historic Site officially opens for the 2023 summer visitor season. This year, Fort Wellington National Historic Site will be offering enhanced guided heritage tours, historical re-enactor events and Canada Day programming.
National historic sites reflect the rich and varied heritage of Canada and provide an opportunity for Canadians to learn more about its diverse history. At Fort Wellington National Historic Site, visitors can learn more about one of the best-preserved nineteenth-century fortifications in Canada, Fort Wellington, which presents the strategic importance of the St. Lawrence River prior, during, and after the War of 1812. Visitors can also enjoy a guided heritage tour, attend a historic re-enactment, or experience special Canada Day programming. - In 2020, Parks Canada completed a $2.6 million rehabilitation of Fort Wellington National Historic Site defensive works. In 2022, the work completed by the construction company, BRC Group, was nominated, and won the 2022 Architectural Conservancy Ontario (ACO) Margaret and Nicholas Hill Cultural Heritage Landscape Award.
