TORONTO, Feb. 24, 2016 /CNW/ - Ask an economist to name the most important quality a nation or organization must develop and you're likely to get an earful about innovation. Technological change and globalization have accelerated our traditional understanding of "creative destruction": those who fail to innovate are now certain to see their prospects diminish rapidly. So how can organizations and nations become more innovative? The winners of this year's Canada's Best Diversity Employers competition, announced today, make the case that becoming an inclusive organization is a remarkably effective way to improve innovation.
"Organizations that promote diversity and inclusiveness attract people with new perspectives and solutions," says Kristina Leung, lead editor on the Canada's Best Diversity Employers competition and Senior Editor at Mediacorp Canada Inc., which manages the project. \"We've always known that inclusive workplaces make organizations stronger; we see now that much of this strength comes from innovation."
Now entering its 10th year, the Canada's Best Diversity Employers competition recognizes the nation's leaders in creating inclusive workplaces for employees from five diverse groups: women; visible minorities; persons with disabilities; Aboriginal peoples; and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) peoples. Employers are selected by the editors at Mediacorp based on submissions to the annual Canada's Top 100 Employers project, published annually since 1999.
"For some years, the business case for workplace diversity has been about 'reflecting the community' that an organization serves," says Richard Yerema, Managing Editor of the Canada's Top 100 Employers competition. "We see now that the business case goes far beyond this – an inclusive workplace changes the DNA of an organization and makes it more innovative."
The winners of this year's Canada's Best Diversity Employers competition were announced this morning in a special magazine published in The Globe and Mail. The editors' detailed reasons for selection were also released this morning at: http://www.canadastop100.com/diversity
