Founder's Son Purchases Sangster's Health Centres from Planet Organic Health

SASKATOON, Feb. 25 /CNW/ - Sangster's Health Centres, announced today that the company has been purchased from Planet Organic Health Corp by Sangster's President and CEO, Darryl Sangster - returning the company to its roots as a privately-held family-run business originally founded by his father in 1971. Canada's longest running retail vitamin and health supplement franchise, Sangster's Health Centres has 44 retail locations across Canada, as well as high volume internal distribution centre and its own line of over 350 Sangster's exclusively branded supplements.

Founder Roy Sangster headed the company for 33 years before selling to Planet Organic Health Corp (POH) in 2004, remaining as President following the sale until retiring in 2008. Following Roy's retirement, his son Darryl was appointed President of Sangster's Health Centres by POH and had previously served Sangster's for the previous 12 years.

Despite the worldwide economic recession, Sangster's Health Centres proved a shining spot within POH, as a division maintaining profitability and market share. When POH began re-structuring divisions in 2009, Darryl saw the opportunity to return the company to family control. "I was not comfortable with the idea of the company my father founded before I was born becoming just another line in some corporation's balance sheet." Mentored by his father, Darryl began the process of re-acquiring the company back from POH, closing the deal on February 18, 2010. Says Darryl, "I cannot begin to describe the pride I have in the company my parents built, and how gratifying it is to return Sangster's Health Centres back to a privately held family business. This company is poised for growth and I am extremely excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. My parents built this company on a solid foundation and now is the time to expand."
