TORONTO, Oct. 17, 2016 /CNW/ - Valerie Creighton, President and CEO of the Canada Media Fund (CMF), is one of this year's most powerful women in global television, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the American reference on the entertainment industry. The feature, unveiled during MIPCOM in Cannes, includes 20 women—four of them Canadian—recognized for their outstanding contribution to the global television industry. United in their ambition, their savvy and their determination, these women shape the global television industry today.
Among the female innovators who oversee vast media empires, greenlight the shows that captivate millions and adapt their organizations in a rapidly changing media environment, are three other Canadians: Barbara Williams, Executive Vice-President and COO, Corus Entertainment; Mary Ann Turcke, President, Bell Media; and Shahrzad Rafati Founder and CEO, BroadbandTV.
Creighton has been at the helm of the CMF and its precursor, the Canadian Television Fund (CTF), since 2006. Under her leadership, the CMF has steadily triggered an increase in production volume, reaching $1.4 billion in 2015-2016. An industry leader in arts, culture and media, she's been recognized for reenergizing some of Canada's most important organizations in the audiovisual sector over the last 35 years, including the merger of the CTF and the Canada New Media Fund to form the CMF in 2010. She has received numerous awards nationally and from her home province of Saskatchewan. For her life-long contributions, outstanding achievements and dedication, she was awarded the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 2016, that province's highest honour.
