Four companies and one organization in Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine make their development and growth projects a reality Français
The Government of Canada awards nearly $583,000 to Chantier Naval MDC, to Verger Poméloi, to Generation V Boat Builders, to Domaine des Salanges and to the Club de motoneigistes de l'île du Havre-Aubert
LES ÎLES-DE-LA-MADELEINE, QC, March 7, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Chantier Naval MDC, the Verger Poméloi, Generation V Boat Builders, the Domaine des Salanges and the Club de motoneigistes de l'île du Havre-Aubert will be able to carry out their projects through a total contribution of $582,500 from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions.
Through this financial assistance, Chantier Naval MDC will be able to expand its company and increase productivity; the Verger Poméloi will be able to diversify their production operations; Generation V Boat Builders and the Domaine des Salanges were able to purchase equipment as part of starting up their company; and the Club de motoneigistes de l'île du Havre-Aubert purchased a new groomer for ensuring the quality and longevity of the snowmobile trails.
The Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Member of Parliament for Gaspésie–Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Minister of National Revenue, made the announcement today. The funding, awarded by the Government of Canada under CED's Quebec Economic Development Program and Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program, will enable the recipient companies and organization to achieve the objectives that they have set for themselves. Carrying out their respective projects will generate total investments of over $3.3 million and create 15 jobs in Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

Contribution – Investments – Project Description

Repayable contribution of $250,000 out of a total investment of $1.7 million
The purpose of the project is to help with the company's expansion and increase its productivity. The contribution awarded will be used for building a factory, developing the site, developing molds, purchasing equipment, purchasing rolling stock, and building up working capital.
The Chantier Naval MDC is a company that specializes in building and repairing fibreglass commercial fishing vessels (mainly lobster boats and crab boats). The company also provides boat repair services and retail sales of marine equipment. Their target clients consist of professional fishers and other shipyards for the sale of hulls and other components.
The company employs six people, and three more jobs will ultimately be created. |

Repayable contribution of $140,000 out of a total investment of $666,678
The purpose of the project is to diversify the company's production activities with the addition of distilling operations. The contribution paid will be used for putting up a new building that will house the cider mill, the kitchen and the shop, and for purchasing equipment.
Le Verger Poméloi is a family business in succession situation, specializing in apple processing. They produce five types of cider. Their orchard has roughly 600 apple trees, more than half of which have reached production stage.
The project will create one new job right away, convert seasonal jobs into full-time jobs, and create a number of other jobs in the near future. |
Generation V Boat Builders (9366-4308 Québec inc.) |
Repayable contribution of $75,000 out of a total investment of $640,614
The purpose of the project is to start up the company. The contribution paid will be used for acquiring and installing a professionally designed, computer numerical-controlled (CNC) machined hull mold, purchasing new boat-building tools and equipment, procuring start-up production inventory, securing working capital, incorporating the company, and securing funding.
Generation V Boat Builders was incorporated in September 2017. The company will manufacture and market a 45- to 49-foot fibreglass fishing vessel hull, longer and wider than boats currently built in Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine. The hull mold is machined by numerical technology making it possible to obtain superior symmetrical features, improving propulsion energy efficiency.

Repayable contribution of $57,500 out of a total investment of $115,000
The purpose of the project is to start up the Domaine des Salanges. The contribution will cover purchasing and installing an energy system, including solar panels, small wind turbines and "ÉcoSolaris" storage cubes, plus production equipment, including oak barrels and bottling and labelling equipment.
In 2006, Mr. André Brossard and his son, Laurence-Olivier, decided to lay the foundations for this vineyard project. The Domaine des Salanges is located in the rolling hills of the Magdalen Islands archipelago and opened for business on September 1, 2018. Its vines are tucked into a small valley to protect them from the winds that sweep the archipelago. |

Non-repayable contribution of $60,000 out of a total investment of $266,825
The purpose of the project is to ensure the quality and longevity of the snowmobile trails maintained by the organization. The contribution will cover the purchase of a new groomer, and its peripheral equipment, intended for mechanical maintenance of the trails.
The Club de motoneigistes de l'île du Havre-Aubert is a non-profit organization established in 1986. It is the only snowmobile club in the Magdalen Islands. They look after maintaining nearly 138 km of trails, 32.9 km of which are on a regional trail and 105.1 km are local trails on l'Île Centrale and l'Île-du-Havre-Aubert. The Club has over 250 members annually, and nearly 50 qualified volunteers look after trail maintenance and safety. |
