CHICAGO, March 6, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Phusion Projects, LLC (Phusion), owner of the flavored malt beverage, Four Loko, would like to contribute to the Quebec debate on certain alcoholic beverages and their accessibility to minors and to set the record straight about its products.
First and foremost, we would like to offer our deepest thoughts and sympathies to the family and friends of Athena Gervais for the loss of their beloved daughter and friend. This sad incident speaks to the serious, societal concerns regarding the misuse of alcohol – alcohol abuse and underage drinking are problems we would like to see discussed and solved.
In a letter sent to the Minister of Rehabilitation, Youth Protection, Public Health and Healthy Living today, our company announced that it had decided to suspend the reintroduction of Four Loko in Quebec until further notice. Four Loko is not presently being sold in Quebec.
In addition, Phusion understands the government is currently looking into the issue of the addition of guarana and other stimulants to alcoholic beverages. It is important to note that Four Loko does not contain any guarana or any other stimulants. It has been over eight years since Phusion voluntarily reformulated Four Loko to remove all stimulants, including caffeine, guarana and taurine.
Four Loko is committed to working actively with all government entities to address the very important issues of promoting the responsible consumption of alcohol by adults and preventing underage consumption.
