Four outstanding Canadian directors honoured as the newest Fellows of the Institute of Corporate Directors

TORONTO, May 23, 2013 /CNW/ - The Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) officially inaugurated the 2013 ICD Fellows at the 16th Annual ICD Fellowship Awards Gala last night at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto.

More than 725 leaders from Canada's business community attended the gala as the 2013 ICD Fellows were recognized for their exemplary leadership in boardrooms across Canada:

• Denis Desautels, OC, FCA, F.ICD (Chair, Laurentian Bank of Canada, 2003-2013)
• Carol Hansell. F.ICD (Director, Global Risk Institute in Financial Services)
• Harold MacKay, OC, SOM, QC, F.ICD (Director, The Toronto-Dominion Bank)
• Chuck Shultz, F.ICD, ICD.D (Director, Canadian Oil Sands)

Each year, the ICD confers the F.ICD designation to a prominent group of men and women who excel in their roles as directors and board chairs. Candidates are nominated by their peers and selected by an independent committee on the basis of the following attributes: leadership and stewardship; accountability to stakeholders; contributions to governance; relationship with the CEO and management; enhancing the effectiveness of the board; and collegiality.

Previous ICD Fellowship inductees include: Ms. Eileen Mercier, MA, MBA, F.ICD, Chair, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (2009); Mr. Brian A. Canfield, CM, OBC, F.ICD, Chair, TELUS Corporation (2007); and Mr. Thomas C. O'Neill, FCA, LLD, F.ICD, Chair, BCE and Bell Canada (2008).
