Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts Appoints Richard (Dick) Friedman to Board of Directors
TORONTO, May 23, 2013 /CNW/ - Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts announces the appointment of prominent real estate developer Richard (Dick) Friedman - representing long-term shareholder Cascade Investment - to the company's Board of Directors effective May 8, 2013.
The appointment builds on Mr. Friedman's more than 40 years of strategic development and leadership experience in both the private and public sector. Mr. Friedman, President and Chief Operating Officer of Boston-based real estate development firm Carpenter & Company, began developing hotels and mixed-use projects in the early 1970s.
During the course of his career the award-winning developer has overseen numerous office building, shopping centre and hotel projects, including the Liberty Hotel in Boston, the St. Regis San Francisco, Charles Square and the 293-guestroom Charles Hotel, the Brookline Marriott Courtyard, and Hyatt hotels in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Princeton, New Jersey.
"We are pleased and fortunate to welcome Dick Friedman to the Board," says Isadore Sharp, Founder and Chairman Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. "He brings a wealth of development experience, insight and leadership that will no doubt support the positive growth Four Seasons has already achieved."
Commenting on his appointment Mr. Friedman says: "Four Seasons is an iconic brand - a global leader and innovator in luxury hospitality. I look forward to working with the Board and Executive Leadership Team to extend this leadership position and realize new opportunities."
In addition to his extensive development experience, Mr. Friedman has also assumed several civic leadership roles. He is the former Chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission and was appointed by President Barack Obama to the President's Export Council.
Mr. Friedman also serves on the board of directors for NYSE-listed Gatehouse Media, and the Steppingstone Foundation, which assists low income students in reaching higher education goals, and the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation. Mr. Friedman received a BA degree from Dartmouth College in 1963.
