TORONTO, June 11, 2020 /CNW/ - FP Canada is reminding Canadians to verify their financial planner's certification currency and status using their Find a Planner tool.
Scams and fraudulent activity have been on the rise during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. It's important to be vigilant when choosing and engaging with individuals who identify themselves as financial planners or other types of financial services providers.
Using the Find a Planner tool, Canadians can search for financial planners by name to verify that they hold Certified Financial Planner® certification or Qualified Associate Financial Planner™ certification. By checking that a financial planner holds a legitimate FP Canada certification, Canadians can make sure that the planner has met FP Canada's rigorous certification standards and is in good standing with FP Canada. The search tool also provides details on each planner's disciplinary history with the FP Canada Standards Council™, if applicable.
CFP® certification demonstrates that a financial planner has the knowledge, skill, experience, and ethics to provide holistic financial planning strategies and solutions at the highest level of complexity required of the profession. CFP professionals work with their clients to build a financial plan so that they can Live Life Confidently™.
QAFP™ certification demonstrates that a financial planner is equipped to provide holistic financial planning strategies and solutions, in accordance with the same ethical standards as CFP certification, for average Canadians with typical financial planning needs. QAFP professionals play an important role in helping their clients begin the journey to living life with confidence.
"By verifying the certification status of a CFP professional or QAFP professional, you can be sure that individual has met the FP Canada Standards Council's certification requirements," says FP Canada's Executive Director, Standards & Certification, Damienne Lebrun-Reid. "Taking this step can provide you with extra confidence when choosing your planner, especially during times of uncertainty."
Canadians can also verify a financial planner's certification status in real time by clicking on their digital badge, available on many CFP professionals' and QAFP professionals' email signatures and social media profiles. Those who have questions about a planner's certification status can contact FP Canada at [email protected].
