Fraudulent fundraising in the greater Halifax area
DARTMOUTH, NS, Nov. 29, 2012 /CNW/ - The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, has received reports of individuals purporting to be collecting donations on behalf of the Foundation in public places, such as restaurants and retail locations, in the greater Halifax area.
The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada does not solicit funds in this fashion in public places. Furthermore, the Foundation has not given permission to anyone to solicit funds on behalf of Children's Wish in this way.
It is our practice to ask individuals interested in supporting Children's Wish to make a donation online or by mail. It is therefore important for the public to be vigilant in the presence of individuals purporting to represent The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada and soliciting donations.
The Foundation has advised local law enforcement authorities who are investigating the matter. Anyone witnessing seemingly fraudulent fundraising activities is asked to immediately contact the Children's Wish Nova Scotia Chapter at (902) 492-1984.
The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada
Each year, thousands of Canadian children between the ages of three and 17 are diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Since 1984, The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada has worked tirelessly to grant exceptional wishes to over 19,000 children and their families.
This year, Children's Wish expects to grant over 1,000 new wishes and with the help of volunteers and generous donors, is able to grant nearly three wishes every day. Each wish is an individual adventure, carefully structured to meet the needs of a particular child and family. Children's Wish is a national charity with chapters in every province and territory.
