Fraudulent Fundraising in the Greater Halifax Area
DARTMOUTH, NS, Nov. 24th, 2014 /CNW/ - The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, has received reports of individuals purporting to be collecting donations on behalf of the Foundation in public places, such as offices, restaurants and retail locations in the Burnside area and possibly other parts of Halifax.
Individuals have been reported to be entering establishments with a guitar, performing songs and asking for donations. The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada does not solicit funds in this fashion in public places. Furthermore, the Foundation has not given permission to anyone to solicit funds on behalf of Children's Wish in this way.
It is important for the public to be vigilant in the presence of individuals purporting to represent The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada and soliciting donations.
In the coming weeks, representatives of the Children's Wish Foundation may approach area businesses to participate in the Ugly Christmas Sweater holiday campaign. These individuals will carry with them a letter of authentication with them signed by Cheryl Matthews, Nova Scotia Chapter Director for Children's Wish.
The Foundation has advised local law enforcement authorities who are investigating the matter. Anyone witnessing seemingly fraudulent fundraising activities is asked to immediately contact the Halifax Regional Police at (902) 490-5020.
