CALGARY, April 8, 2013 /CNW/ - As a society, we generally strive to keep our bodies fit, and yet many of us do not realize the importance of financial fitness. To help you with this previously unexplored subject, Money Mentors is offering free financial fitness classes throughout the year. These classes focus on various financial matters; topics include successful money management, proactive budgeting, saving strategies, debt management, using credit wisely, how and when to plan for retirement, and ways we can teach our kids the value of hard-earned money.
In March, the free financial fitness class discussed Credit Rating IQ, a topic which was delivered in all six Money Mentors offices across the province. In Canada, your credit rating determines whether you can get a loan or open a bank account; it also defines what rates you will be charged and what financial institution is willing to do business with you.
This video on Credit Rating IQ presents some indispensable information regarding your credit report and credit score. After watching this video, you will be able to understand how credit rating works, what is reported, who uses it, and how it impacts your financial wellbeing. You will also learn how to get a copy of your credit report, how to interpret the information reported, and what to do if you need to correct an error. The most important aspect of credit rating - how to maintain or improve an individual's rating - is also discussed in this video.
The next free seminar will focus on tackling debt. The Tackle Debt session will be offered on April 10 in Medicine Hat, Red Deer, Grand Prairie, Lethbridge, Calgary, and Edmonton, and will run from 6:30-7:30 p.m. We hope you will come and learn how to keep your credit history in good shape, while also understanding exactly how to build borrowing-power for the future by dealing with your debts today.
Money Mentors is the only Alberta-based, not-for-profit credit counselling agency. Through a number of services, we help families and individuals recover from financial crisis and move forward. From credit counselling and money coaching to retirement planning and community financial literacy, we are contributing to a healthier financial future for the entire province.
