TORONTO, Oct. 21, 2013 /CNW/ - Until November 30, Videotron subscribers are in for a treat: the Quebec-based cable-TV service is unscrambling Ontario French-language channel TFO to let viewers discover and enjoy the full range of its programming for free. That includes TFO's award-winning entertainment for children and teens, educational programs for young and old, shows about society today, CinéTFO film broadcasts, CinéTFO+ performing arts broadcasts, and BRBR TFO, the web/TV platform that celebrates the best in emerging French-Canadian independent music.
Already widely recognized for the quality of its content, TFO has taken this initiative, through Videotron, to open up its world of educational and cultural programming to new audiences. As Groupe Média TFO Director of Marketing Pascal Arseneau explains, "More and more Quebecers are choosing TFO to enrich their enjoyment of television and digital media with the original French-language content that we have to offer."
Every day from 6:00 am to 6:30 pm, TFO's programming for children and youth offers engaging, dynamic characters who draw them into a whole universe where they can learn while having fun. Mini TFO, for younger children, is a genuine interactive kindergarten, while FLIP TFO offers youth ages 9 to 14 a veritable media playground. From 8 pm on, older viewers get their turn, with a choice of programs such as BRBR, covering the French-Canadian indie music scene, and programs about current social trends, such as Ruby, 360, and the series Parents un jour, parents toujours.
At 9:00 pm Monday through Saturday, CinéTFO airs a rich selection of films in French—great classics, treasures of auteur cinema, and award winners from contemporary film festivals. CinéTFO also airs tributes to great directors whose films and careers have left a mark on their times—master filmmakers such as Denis Côté, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Maurice Pialat, and Alexander Sokourov. Fans of the great classics will be pleased to discover or rediscover masterpieces such as Jules and Jim, by François Truffaut, and Beauty and the Beast, by Jean Cocteau.
Lovers of the performing arts will be delighted to know that every Sunday at 8:00 pm, CinéTFO+ will be celebrating all of them, broadcasting operas, plays, concerts, ballets, and contemporary dance performances. The operas aired this November will be straight from the stages of the Opéra de Montréal and the Canadian Opera Company.
