Full day learning in Ontario: A year one checkup
Association of Early Childhood Educators Ontario
TORONTO, Oct. 25 /CNW/ - Much has happened in the 12 months since Premier Dalton McGuinty promised to embark on a new vision to reform education and care services for children and families. Today thousands of 4- and 5-year-olds are in full day schooling and Early Childhood Educators and teachers are delivering a new play-based curriculum. But what about the "extended" day that was supposed to remove the split between child care and schooling that young children find so stressful? Where are the new 'Child and Family Centres' that were to bring preschool and family support programs into one accessible location?
The Association for Early Childhood Educators Ontario (AECEO) represents the educators across the province working in full day learning in schools, in child care centres and family support programs. Through its members the AECEO actively monitors the successes and limitations of the early years initiative as it rolls out in communities across Ontario.
