TORONTO, Jan. 22, 2016 /CNW/ - Fundata Canada Inc. is pleased to announce the winners of the Fundata FundGrade A+ Award for 2015. At an awards ceremony held on Thursday, January 21, 2016, in Toronto, 45 companies representing a total of 213 Canadian investment funds received the Fundata FundGrade A+ Award.
The FundGrade A+ Award is given annually to investment funds and their managers who have shown consistent, outstanding, risk-adjusted performance through the year. As such, the FundGrade A+ Award provides investors, advisors, and fund managers with a single, reliable, easy-to-understand fund-performance rating based on up to 10 years of history.
Of the 213 funds receiving the A+ Award for 2015, 131 were mutual funds, 24 were ETFs, 55 were segregated funds, and 3 were socially-responsible funds. Janny Vincent, President and CEO of Fundata Canada Inc., said, "The A+ Award-winning funds join a very elite group, with some 5% of the eligible mutual funds, segregated funds, and ETFs tracked by Fundata receiving the A+ Award."
The FundGrade A+ Rating is a purely quantitative award system, using a totally objective, transparent, score-based calculation to arrive at a grade-point average that ranks funds to determine the annual "best-of-the-best" investment fund ratings. Segregated funds are ranked separately. And as in previous years, the best-performing funds with a socially-responsible investing mandate were honoured separately, based on Equity, Balanced, and Fixed Income categories.
The investment fund industry continues to be an extremely important part of how Canadians manage their investments. "The success of funds is due to the importance of our industry to Canada's economy, our strong regulatory system, the quality of our products, and the value that advice brings to clients," said guest speaker Joanne De Laurentiis, President and CEO of the Investment Funds Institute of Canada. With well over $1 trillion in assets under management, funds account for more than 31% of Canadians' financial wealth.
"With so much of Canadians' wealth under fund industry stewardship, Fundata Canada takes pride in the fact that the FundGrade A+ Award has been accepted and embraced by our industry as an independent and objective acknowledgement of excellence," said Ms. Vincent.
