Funding available to participate in the NEB's regulatory process for the Eastern Mainline Project

CALGARY, June 24, 2014 /CNW/ - The National Energy Board is making $300,000 available under its Participant Funding Program to support participation in the hearing for the proposed Eastern Mainline Project. These funds will help landowners, Aboriginal groups, incorporated non-industry, not-for-profit organizations, and other interested persons to participate in the regulatory process. A higher amount may be considered once applications for funding are received.

On 8 May 2014, TransCanada PipeLines Limited submitted a project description to the National Energy Board for the proposed Eastern Mainline Project. The proposed project would include the construction of up to 370 km of new 36-inch (914 mm) natural gas pipeline, between Markham, ON and Iroquois, ON. For much of the route, the new pipeline will follow the existing TransCanada Mainline.

The funding available will help those who are interested to review the Eastern Mainline Project application and participate in the hearing. Interested persons are encouraged to review information on the proposed project, including the Preliminary Draft List of Issues before submitting an application for funding.

To receive funding, interested persons must apply for and be accepted as an Intervenor in the NEB's regulatory process. The funds must be used to prepare for and participate in the hearing. Details about the hearing will be announced by the Board at a later date.

A funding review committee, independent of the regulatory process, will consider all applications for funding and make recommendations on the allocation of funds.

Funding applications should be submitted as soon as possible. Funding will only be awarded for hearing related activities conducted after your application has been approved. Please review the Participant Funding Program Guide to determine when and how to apply for funding and what will be covered.
