PERTH, Australia, Dec. 12, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Galaxy Resources Ltd (ASX: GXY) ("Galaxy" or "the Company") confirms that following an incident at its Jiangsu Lithium Carbonate Plant ("Jiangsu" or "the Plant") in China on 22 November, the local Safety Bureau has released the incident site (Area 60) to the Company to commence the clean-up and refurbishment process.
Following discussions with the local Safety Bureau, the Company has proposed a refurbishment plan for the affected Area 60 including the replacement of ruptured pipe work. Subject to government approval to re-open the site, the Company plans to complete the refurbishment and shutdown work and be in a position to re-commence operations early February 2013.
The remainder of the site was released to the Company last week for further safety inspections, and scheduled shutdown and maintenance work. So far, the Company has replaced some of the inlet kiln refractory and installed additional kiln lifters.
Product sales, customer testing and qualification will continue over the next few months supported by available product inventory.
The Company is working closely with authorities to ensure complete and ongoing safety of the Plant before re-commencement of operations.
