Galtronics' Award-Winning Antenna Technology at Gila River Arena - Home of the Arizona Coyotes
Extending High-Capacity 4G Coverage to the Westgate Entertainment District
TORONTO, Feb. 23, 2015 /CNW/ -- Galtronics Corporation Ltd., a Baylin Technologies Company (TSX: BYL), has provided its state-of-the-art antennas for a new distributed antenna system ("DAS") which upgrades cellular voice and data coverage from 2G to 4G at the Gila River Arena and Westgate Entertainment District. The system is owned and operated by Crown Castle, the industry leader in the design, development, and execution of multi-carrier DAS, a type of small cell solution.
Galtronics' EXTENT™ antennas were chosen for the upgrade due to their leading RF performance and future-proof design covering the entire frequency range of 698-960/1710-2700 MHz. Antennas implemented in the Gila River Arena DAS include the EXTENT™ D5777i 30 degree/30 degree antenna, which provides a very narrow-beamwidth that allows RF engineers to design the network with more sectors in order to support high capacity; and the EXTENT™ D5501i 30 degree/60 degree narrow beamwidth Panel Antenna, which is a broadband, directional single-sector MIMO antenna designed with high-capacity venues such as stadiums or campuses in mind.
"We are pleased that our innovative, award-winning antennas, which were instrumental in supporting record-breaking wireless usage in the Big Game, and also are part of the wireless DAS enhancements at the Gila River Arena located directly across the street from the University of Phoenix Stadium," said Ephraim Ulmer, President and CEO of Galtronics. "Antennas are critical components that enable wireless systems to work.
"Antennas are similar to speakers in a high-end stereo system: great speakers will make many systems sound excellent and perform well, but low-quality speakers will make even the best system sound terrible," Ulmer added. "The same concept applies to antennas, which have to handle the physical dimensions and interfaces of two-way communication for high-speed wireless connectivity, and the up- and downloading of data between user devices and the distributed antenna system."
Gila River Arena, which opened in 2003, has hosted five NHL Playoff series including the 2012 Western Conference Final. With a capacity of more than 18,000, it forms the heart of the Westgate Entertainment District, about 20 miles west of downtown Phoenix. The district attracts more than 22 million visitors each year who will now have access to high speed 4G wireless network.
