As proud sponsor of World Cyber Games, Samsung invites cyber athletes to face off using the Series 7 Gaming Laptop to represent Canada at global finals in China
TORONTO, Sept. 19, 2012 /CNW/ - Do you have what it takes to be one of Canada's best gamers? Samsung and World Cyber Games (WCG) are teaming up to find the best and most passionate e-Sport competitors. Through an online qualifying event and regional final tournaments across the country, the top cyber athletes will go on to represent Canada at the WCG Grand Final in Kunshan, China. Competitors will face off using the powerful Samsung Series 7 Gaming Laptop to prove their skills.
"Samsung designed the Series 7 Gaming Laptop for serious gaming performance, and we're excited to put our technology to the ultimate test with WCG Canada's best cyber competitors," said Andrew Barrett, VP Marketing for Samsung Canada. "No matter what your gaming passion, Samsung has you covered - from serious gaming on Series 7, to on-the-go play with the Galaxy GS III, to the interactive Angry Birds experience on our SMART TVs we invite gamers of all abilities to test their skills during the regional tournaments."
"Thanks in part to Samsung's sponsorship, for the first time ever, WCG Canada is thrilled to be able to bring the national finals to three locations across the country," said Thierry St-Jacques-Gagnon, CEO of WCG Canada. "Through this new tournament format, we are hoping to uncover talented cyber athletes from coast to coast to represent Canada at this year's WCG Grand Final in China."
From the serious competitor to the casual player, WCG Canada players and visitors alike can experience gaming on Samsung technology at each of the regional final events. Visitors can experience game play on the new Samsung GALAXY GS III, Series 7 and 9 laptops and SMART TVs onsite.
Anyone in Canada can register to compete free of charge through either an online qualifying round or through regional finals for the three official gaming titles: StarCraft® II: Wings of Liberty, FIFA 12 and Cross Fire®. Courtesy of Samsung Canada, the online winners of StarCraft II and FIFA 12 will each win preferred tournament seeding and travel to their closest regional final competition. For Cross Fire, the online qualifier will determine the top three teams that will join last year's Champions in the finals, to be held in Montreal, Quebec.

Samsung Fuels Gaming Passions
In celebration of the 2012 WCG Canada tournaments, passionate gamers can visit Samsung Canada's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/SamsungCanada) for a chance to win a Series 7 Gaming Laptop.
All WCG Canada participants will face off at the regional finals on a Samsung Series 7 Gaming Laptop and 27" Series 9 3D LED Monitor. The Series 7 Gaming Laptop features lightning quick processing power thanks to an NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 675 M Graphics card, while a quad-core Intel processor also seamlessly allocates processing power where it's needed for incredible game play experiences. A simple Mode Dial lets serious competitors switch quickly between 4 different modes for optimum performance: Gaming, Balanced, Library (reduces noise and unnecessary lighting or sound), or Green mode, which helps save power.
Gaming mode turbo cools the CPU, allows users to disable the Windows key and touch pad to avoid accidental interruptions, and highlights the main gaming keys in red, to allow for faster play and fewer errors.
Perfect for on-the-go gaming, the lightning-fast GS III is powered by Android™ Jelly Bean, and features a mighty 1.5GHz Advanced Dual-Core processor and stunning graphical capabilities thanks to a 4.8" Super AMOLED screen.
Family game night will never be the same, thanks to Angry Birds on Samsung's SMART TV. Using its Motion Control technology, Samsung's SMART TV is the first TV to offer the world's most popular game with a twist: players enjoy an immersive, interactive gaming experience by controlling it entirely through hand gestures. A wave of the hand can initiate the slingshot or activate unique skills for each bird.
