MONTRÉAL, April 3, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Gaz Métro is proud to announce that it has placed 5th in Corporate Knights' Future 40 ranking, in addition to being first in Quebec and the top-ranked utility. This ranking recognizes Canadian companies with revenues under $2 billion (or maintaining fewer than 2,000 employees in 2012) that are top sustainability performers.
Among the 213 companies eligible for the first Corporate Knights' The Future 40 Most Responsible Leaders in Canada, Gaz Métro stood out for many aspects of its sustainability performance at environmental, economic and social levels. These include its increased annual profit, a low work accident rate and the reduction in green house gases (GHGs) of 33% since 1990.
"This result is a recognition of the increasing maturity of our sustainability initiatives over the past few years," said Stéphanie Trudeau, Vice President, Strategy, Communication and Sustainability at Gaz Métro. The 12 indicators used to measure the performance of the selected companies are the same as those compiled in the Gaz Métro 2013 Sustainability Report, based on the most recent standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI G4).
