GD Midea Air Conditioning Equipment Company Recalls Certain Dehumidifiers

This recall involves the following brands of Dehumidifiers: Danby, Frigidaire and Kenmore

TORONTO, Nov. 9, 2016 /CNW/ - Sears Canada Inc. is issuing a voluntary product recall today for certain Danby, Frigidaire and Kenmore dehumidifiers that were manufactured by GD Midea Air Conditioning Equipment Company. It has been discovered that the dehumidifiers can overheat, smoke or catch fire, posing a burn and fire hazard. 

The dehumidifiers were sold at Sears Canada retail stores, and online at www.sears.ca and through the Sears Canada Catalogue between September 2003 and 2016. The affected model numbers and corresponding Sears item numbers are as follows:

Neither Health Canada nor Sears Canada has received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of this product.

In the interest of consumer safety, Sears Canada urges customers to immediately stop using the dehumidifier.  Sears customers should not return the product but should contact GD Midea Air Conditioning Equipment Company, toll-free at 1-800-600-3055 from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday to arrange for a product replacement or partial refund.

Sears Canada is bringing this matter to the public's attention in the interest of consumer safety.  The Company apologizes to its customers for any inconvenience.  Sears will be posting signs in all of its retail stores to advise customers of this product recall.
