PETERBOROUGH, ON, July 15, 2014 /CNW/ - General Electric (GE) Canada and Export Development Canada (EDC) are working together to identify and introduce innovative and globally minded Canadian companies into the supply chain of two GE Canada divisions in Peterborough, Ontario.
EDC, Canada's leading provider of trade financing and insurance, will introduce its Canadian technology, manufacturing and services customers to GE Power Conversion and GE Hitachi Nuclear Canada in Peterborough.
The introductions are being made as part of a joint GE Canada and EDC session, targeting companies from across Canada that have developed excellence in environmental, health and safety services.
GE Canada and EDC first partnered on a similar initiative session in February 2014 at GE Aviation Bromont in Quebec to identify leading Canadian suppliers in tooling and automation.
"GE in Peterborough is always looking to draw on the best Canadian capabilities to enhance its competitiveness in global markets. By working with EDC to strengthen global supply chains, we are able to forge new relationships and explore opportunities to work together and win more business right here at home," said Bradley Smith, Vice President of Regional Programs for GE Canada.
EDC provides financing solutions for GE Canada based upon the quality of its Canadian footprint and the prominence of exporting in its business model. GE Canada has been a strategic partner for EDC due to its strong track record of growing exports from its Canadian operations and nurturing Canadian suppliers into dynamic exporters.
"The supply chains of global companies like GE are critical to Canada's exporting story, pulling along Canadian companies into global markets and helping them grow," said Norm Low, Acting Senior Vice-President, Business Development, EDC. "An important part of EDC's job is to identify the right Canadian companies for the right supply chains and help create opportunities for them to meet and get to know each other."
