Holding Statement - Canada
Today GE and Mabe Canada announced a recall of certain plastic tub dishwashers with front controls because of an electrical failure in the dishwasher's heating element that can pose a fire hazard. About 90,400 units in Canada are involved in the recall. GE have received 15 reports of dishwasher heating element failures, (3 of which occurred in Canada) seven of which resulted in fire and smoke damage beyond the product.
This recall involves certain GE®, GE Profile™ and Moffat ®brand dishwashers that were sold from March 2006 through August 2009. The models were sold in black, white, bisque, stainless steel and CleanSteel™ exterior colors and finishes. The model and serial numbers can be found on a label inside the dishwasher on the left tub wall.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled dishwashers and call Mabe Canada toll-free at 1-888-943-5188 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday Eastern Time to schedule a free repair, or to receive a rebate of $75 toward the purchase of a new GE front-control plastic tub dishwasher, or a rebate of $100 toward the purchase of a new GE front-control stainless tub dishwasher or GE Profile top-control dishwasher. Before calling, consumers should write down the model and serial number of their dishwasher.
