GE Opens the First Mobile Water Service Center in Alberta, Combining Big Data with Innovative Water Treatment Technology
- New Facility Will Reduce Response Time and Decrease Costs for Customers in Western Canada and the Northern United States
- Facility is First of Its Kind in Region and Will Offer Quick Deployment of GE Mobile Water Equipment to Benefit Companies During Planned Maintenance and Emergencies
EDMONTON, June 30, 2015 /CNW/ - Today, GE (NYSE: GE) announced the opening of a new mobile water service center in Edmonton, the first of its kind anywhere in Alberta, designed to rapidly decrease response time and cost for customers located in Western Canada and the northern United States. The new 15,000-square-foot service center will help local companies and communities in need of an immediate water solution, either for planned maintenance, emergency or disaster recovery. Providing rapid response in closer proximity to temporary water treatment needs is expected to enhance local water resiliency and emergency preparedness initiatives.
With this new service facility, GE has increased the availability of its temporary water and servicing solutions—including mobile water equipment for reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration and ion exchange as well as service deionization—for the region. All GE mobile water trailers also can incorporate InSight*, GE's data management, remote monitoring and diagnostic platform using the power of the Industrial Internet, to monitor the performance of water and process applications at a customer location.
"The opening of our new Edmonton mobile water service center underscores our commitment to Alberta and the Western Canadian market and the local customers we serve there. By being able to swiftly deploy our equipment and other resources to local companies, it decreases their overall cost and allows us to provide the clean water they need as quickly as possible," said Yuvbir Singh, general manager, engineered systems—water and process technologies for GE Power & Water. "We are especially excited to introduce our new advanced data analytics capabilities, giving customers even greater visibility into the efficiency of their operations."
This new facility will be home to GE's self-contained, trailer-based water treatment technology, enabling rapid deployment of service on a reduced environmental footprint.
"By opening a new mobile water center in Edmonton, GE will be able to serve Western Canadian customers like ATCO Power faster, giving us more cost-effective and timely methods of obtaining temporary water on-site when we need it," said Stefan Ford, P. Eng., PMP, chemical engineer, ATCO Power Canada. "We have worked with GE for more than 10 years, and they continue to invest in local resources like this that benefit our business."
