Genalta Power enters agreement with Shell to generate an additional 5MW from Peace River Solution Gas
CALGARY, May 8, 2014 /CNW/ - Genalta Power Inc. is pleased to announce that it will be increasing the capacity of its Peace River Generation Facilities after entering into an agreement with Shell Canada. The additional capacity will be utilizing produced gas that is associated with Shell's Peace River bitumen (Cliffdale) cold production as source fuel to generate approximately 5MW of electricity.
This is Genalta Power's second produced gas to power arrangement with Shell. The first, signed in 2012, allows Genalta Power to generate 4MW of electricity from Shell's produced gas. Together, these two facilities will generate enough clean electricity to power the equivalent of over 10,000 homes in Alberta.
Genalta Power will engineer, own, and operate this expansion of the Peace River generation facility and expects it to be in operation in the first quarter of 2015.
"This project will build on Genalta Power's strategy to create an opportunity for producers in the Peace River Area to generate electricity with their produced gas" said Drew Shaw, Genalta Power's CEO. "Genalta Power is proud to be a solution provider for Shell and their operations in the Peace River Region".
