Genalta Power is the first to quantify and verify Greenhouse Gas Emissions from flare gas to power operations
CALGARY, Sept. 29, 2014 /CNW/ - Genalta Power is proud to announce that the Cadotte Peace River Power Generating Facility has generated 8,208 tonnes of CO2e carbon offsets for the 2013 calendar year. The project, which converts solution gas into electricity, diverts approximately 680 Gigajoules (GJ) of unprocessed, sour gas away from flare each day. The facility was commissioned in 2012 and is owned and operated by Genalta Power.
The Cadotte facility is the first flare gas to power application to earn offset credits in Alberta. Under the provincial protocol for waste heat recovery, the 3MW facility is expected to reduce emissions by approximately 240,000 tonnes of CO2e over its lifetime. With 20MW of planned expansions in the region, Genalta Power anticipates the facility will generate even more offset credits in years to come.
"We are very proud to be the first flare gas to power application to earn Greenhouse Gas Offset Credits." said Drew Shaw, Genalta Power CEO. "By quantifying the offsets generated by Cadotte, we are not only realizing actual environmental benefits, but also increasing project revenues. We hope to duplicate this success in all other flare gas to power initiatives across Alberta".
