Gennum Announces Integrated Platform-Based Solutions for SFP+ Optical Modules
Gennum Offers Fully Integrated 6G and 11G Module IC Solutions
BURLINGTON, ON, March 23 /CNW/ - Gennum Corporation (TSX:GND) today announced two new fully integrated IC solutions for SFP+ modules. Gennum's solutions include the GN1411 DML driver with integrated limiting amplifier for 6Gb/s to 11.3Gb/s data rates and the GN1412 EML driver with integrated limiting amplifier for up to 11.3Gb/s data rates.
Bandwidth requirements are increasing at a rapid pace, resulting in the demand for high port density, high speed, routing and switching equipment. Gennum's integrated limiting amplifier and laser devices are targeted at SFP+ modules needed for these high port density systems. Increases in video transmission over wireless networks have also created a need for high bandwidths in wireless backhaul equipment. Gennum's new devices provide a highly integrated, cost effect solution for these applications.
"Gennum's new optical IC solutions offer the highest level of integration available in the market today, and include features such as slice level adjust and Rx path input equalization which can be used in EML based applications. Our devices are highly configurable and the integration allows support of loopback functionality which can be beneficial for system designers. Gennum's solution delivers increased functionality, industry-leading performance and expands our already rich portfolio of optical components to include EML drivers," said Martin Rofheart, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Analog Mixed Signal Group, Gennum Corporation.
Addressing its customers' requirements to reduce overall design costs and expedite time to market, Gennum's GN1411 and GN1412 devices add to its platform based approach for SFP+ and XFP optical modules. The GN1411 and GN1412 laser driver with limiting amplifier devices are fully pin compatible with Gennum's recently introduced dual 10Gb/s CDR with laser driver and limiting amplifier devices and is pin compatible with Gennum's recently introduced 16G Fibre Channel dual CDR device. This enables optical module designers to do one design and re-use it to cover a wide range of SFP+ and XFP module types. The GN1411 is sampling now and the GN1412 will begin sampling in Q2, 2010.
