The Government of Canada is helping Canadians participate, celebrate and explore thanks to support for several new Canada 150 projects in British Columbia
VANCOUVER, June 2, 2017 /CNW/ - British Columbia—get ready to celebrate, participate and explore! The Government of Canada is supporting 23 additional projects in the province, bringing the total to more than 80 projects to help Canadians get active, connect with nature, and explore the diverse culture and heritage that make British Columbia a great place to live. Jonathan Wilkinson, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Member of Parliament (North Vancouver), made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage.
Throughout 2017, British Columbians and visitors to the province will be able to celebrate Canada 150 through hundreds of activities and events that showcase Canada's linguistic, cultural and regional diversity. Initiatives such as "We Are Canadians, Too!" led by the Asian-Canadian Special Events Association, are designed to encourage intercultural exchange. Projects such as the Rick Hansen Foundation's "Access4All" and 4Rs Youth Movement's "Possible Canadas" encourage young Canadians to play an active role in their community and help shape the Canada of tomorrow. In April, the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival Society's Spring Light successfully encouraged active participation in the community.
The Government of Canada is providing $1,606,643 to support these additional initiatives through the Canada 150 Fund, which is administered by the Department of Canadian Heritage. The government is pleased to support local, regional and national activities designed to encourage Canadians across the country to take part in the celebrations, and to come together to make 2017 an unforgettable year.
