TORONTO, Jan. 6, 2014 /CNW/ - GFL Environmental Inc. announced that effective January 1, 2014, it has acquired The Garbage Company Inc. ("TGC"), a solid waste management company based in Calgary, Alberta, giving GFL its first solid waste operation in Western Canada.
The GFL-Garbage Company combination will create a strong base for GFL to grow its solid waste business in the West.
With the additional The Garbage Company Inc.'s 55 strong workforce, GFL now employs more than 1,300 people and services more than 16,000 commercial, industrial and institutional customers and more than 875,000 households, across Canada. Warren Graumann, the founder of The Garbage Company Inc. will stay on with GFL as its Regional Manager, Solid Waste, Western Canada.
