Gift cards, not light strings, to be exchanged at Toronto Hydro's Festive
Light Exchange events this weekend.
TORONTO, Nov. 19 /CNW/ - Due to a voluntary recall on LED holiday light strings by The Home Depot, Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited cannot exchange LED light strings for old, incandescent strings at Festive Light Exchange events this weekend. Instead, customers who bring in two, old, inefficient festive light strings will receive a gift card from The Home Depot valued at $15.
Toronto Hydro's LED light string supplier, The Home Depot Canada announced today that it is voluntarily recalling all holiday LED light strings sold between October 1 - November 18, 2010 due to quality issues.
To honour their commitment, The Home Depot and Toronto Hydro are working together to offer the gift card to ensure customers who attend events this weekend are not disappointed. Please note: The Home Depot is not currently selling LED light strings but will honour the gift cards for other merchandise.
Customers participating in Festive Light exchanges planned for this weekend at the following locations will receive a gift card in lieu of a holiday LED light string:
Saturday, November 20 | 11 AM - 2 PM | Riverside District | The Mustard Seed - 791 Queen St. E at Strange St. (West of CN tracks) |
Saturday, November 20 | 2 - 4 PM | Don Valley East (MPP Caplan) | Sloane Public School - Sloane Ave. (between Lawrence and Eglinton, West of Victoria Park) |

Some conditions apply: Limit one gift card per two incandescent light strings exchanged. One card per household. While supplies last. Limit 500 cards per location.
Customers are not affected if they participated in a Festive Light Exchange event as follows:

Inventory for these events was supplied from a different batch and are not part of The Home Depot's voluntary recall. The lights exchanged at these events are of a superior quality and may be used.
Toronto Hydro will work to source new lights and advise the public as soon as possible on the status of events scheduled for the next few weeks.
