TORONTO, May 3, 2012 /CNW/ - Score Media Inc. (TSX: SCR) and Gillette Canada are proud to announce the next season of Gillette DRAFTED - and this time the competition is fiercer than ever!
For the first time in the show's history, viewers of theScore will play a part in deciding who is crowned winner, earning a one-year contract as Score Media's newest sportscaster - contributing to theScore Television Network, theScore.com and ScoreMobile - plus a one-year spokesperson contract with Gillette.
After an extensive one-month round of video and in-person auditions, kicking off in Halifax on Saturday May 5, 24 hopefuls will be selected to compete for a place in the next season of Gillette DRAFTED.
To make the final cut, contestants will face a series of rigorous challenges at DRAFTED Boot Camp, including a thorough test of their sporting knowledge, with the results aired on theScore and online at Drafted.ca, theScore.com and Facebook page.
A combination of viewer votes and a panel of judges will select the final six. Finalists will then go head-to-head over eight episodes beginning September 24, and viewers voting for the winner during a live finale.
"We're so excited about the new format of this season of Gillette DRAFTED," said Benjie Levy, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Score Media Inc. "For the first time ever, the viewers themselves will be able to play a major part in deciding who deserves to become our next sportscaster. This year the theme is 'be the master of your style', which is something the contestants will need to accomplish to show their audience from the start that they've got what it takes."
Chris Lamb, Gillette Canada Brand Manager, added: "It's been an exciting year for the company and the updated format of Gillette Drafted reinforces the continued commitment we have to our consumers to provide innovative and exciting ways to connect, engage and enroll our fan base. The title of Gillette spokesperson and Canada's next sportscaster is in the hands of Canadians and we can't wait to see who the fans pick."
During this season, contestants will be mentored by a team of sports broadcasting experts, with last year's winner Jackie Redmond taking on a key role. She said: "Winning Gillette DRAFTED completely changed my life and it's been a total blast working at theScore and representing Gillette. I'll be doing my best to guide this year's crop through what will be an extremely testing process."
