OTTAWA, July 4, 2013 /CNW/ - Louise Fréchette, Chair of the Board of Directors of CARE Canada, a leading international humanitarian and development organization, today announced the appointment of Gillian Barth, as its new president and CEO.
"Gillian is a visionary leader whose career has been defined by an unshakeable dedication to ending poverty," said Ms Fréchette. "Her vast experience of the international humanitarian and development field and her outstanding leadership qualities prepare her well to lead CARE Canada in a context of a rapidly changing developing world."

Throughout her career at CARE, Ms. Barth has worked to ensure CARE Canada plays a leading role within the CARE International federation, which will be central to her term as president and CEO.

As a founding and significant member of the federation, we will continue to strive together with our partners to achieve the highest levels of performance and impact in serving individuals and families in the poorest communities of the world."
Ms. Barth has 30 years experience in management, international development, human resources, program research and management and most recently was the executive vice-president of CARE Canada. Her overseas experience includes work throughout Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. She officially assumed the post on July 1, 2013.
Ms Barth is replacing Kevin McCort who is leaving the organization after 22 years, the last six as President and CEO.

Kevin has earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues both within the CARE International family and the broader development community.
