Give Gifts of A Local Nature this Holiday Season

-The Living City Foundation and Toronto and Region Conservation introduce unique gift giving ideas from adopting a bird to planting trees -

TORONTO, Nov. 19, 2012 /CNW/ - Looking for a unique, meaningful local holiday gift? How about adopting a real bird, building a home for a bird family, or planting trees in the name of your friend, colleague or family member?

Gifts of a Local Nature are gift ideas that give back to the local environment. Each gift comes with a unique certificate for the gift you choose. There are 18 gift options - 11 bird species can be adopted and banded from a Blue Jay to a Saw Whet Owl. Four bird homes can be built and there are three tree planting options. The bird homes and trees are located on Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) protected property. The purchase of all gifts include a membership to the Tommy Thompson Park Bird Research Station.

Every day, The Living City Foundation (LCF) supports the hands-on conservation work of TRCA. TRCA works in the backyards of the greater Toronto region. They plant trees, educate kids, green businesses, band birds, rescue wildlife, build wetlands, do archeological surveys, clean water, champion renewable energy and so much more.

"When The Living City Foundation decided to join the many organizations which offer symbolic gifts for the holiday season, it was clear that our gifts could be unique," said David Love, Executive Director, The Living City Foundation. "Unique because, like TRCA's work, they aren't symbolic at all. They are real! We will band a real bird. We will build and locate a home for a bird family. We will plant a tree. And we will do this is your name or in the name of someone you wish."

Prices range from $35 - $350 dollars. All gift purchases come with a tax receipt.
