Girl ambassadors from Plan International Canada have set their sights on the seats of political, business and educational leaders so they can make their voices heard
TORONTO, Sept. 26, 2016 /CNW/ - Canadians woke up to an inspiring video challenge this morning - a diverse and remarkable group of girls from across Canada gathered in front of the camera, challenging Canadian leaders to give up their seats for one day - to a girl.
"We believe girls and women belong where decisions are made, and as we approach the 5th International Day of the Girl on October 11, we challenge our government leaders and executives to give up their seats for the day," said Roshni K . "We are excited to see who steps up to the challenge, and we're asking: who's with us?"
The Canadian #GirlsBelongHere initiative is part of a global movement in celebration of International Day of the Girl, with over 120 leadership roles being filled by girls in over 50 countries. Canadians can follow the conversation using the hashtag #GirlsBelongHere.
"As we lead up to International Day of the Girl, we are proud to see girls celebrating in such a unique and empowering way, claiming their rightful place in the leadership seat," said Caroline Riseboro, President and CEO of Plan International Canada. "Girls know that they need to be visible to truly make a difference in the world, and we are eager to see the acceptances roll in."
