Give Us Your Best, Flush the Rest
We Want Your Brightest Ideas to Help Us Build the World's Best Washroom at YVR
RICHMOND B.C., June 19, 2015 /CNW/ - Vancouver International Airport is on the lookout for ideas to build the world's best washroom. Soliciting ideas in the categories of sustainability, innovation and accessibility, YVR is requesting input from the travelling public on features and amenities to incorporate into YVR's next washroom upgrade.
"YVR was so proud to be nominated for Canada's Best Restroom in 2014. One might think that after receiving such lofty praise for our loos, we would be content to rest on our laurels. Not so. YVR always aims to improve, and the world's best washroom is our latest target," said Don Ehrenholz, Vice President Engineering, Vancouver Airport Authority. "We've launched this contest to solicit the top ideas from those who know our washrooms best: the people who use them. We hope that our international travellers will inspire us with ideas from fantastic facilities around the world."
YVR's Washroom Committee has worked to ensure that every upgraded washroom throughout the airport offers accessible and functional features. These include hands-free sinks and towel dispensers, change stations, lowered countertops for accessibility and spacious stalls with hand rails. Distinctive mosaic tiling, terrazzo flooring, and bright and ample lighting make the space modern and calming. And not to be overlooked is the importance of increased air flow, to create a more pleasant olfactory experience overall.
"We want to guarantee that every passenger has an exceptional experience in our terminal," said Ehrenholz. "From dining and shopping options to directional signage and customer service, we consider every element that contributes to the experience – and washrooms are no exception. Our customers regularly tell us that washroom cleanliness and accessibility greatly contribute to their positive experiences at YVR."
Ideas for the World's Best Washroom contest can be submitted to YVR through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #YVRwashroom or by email to [email protected]. But please don't write them in the stalls!
Successful ideas will be implemented into Domestic Terminal washrooms on Level 2 scheduled for upgrades in 2016. Travel vouchers for flights from YVR will be awarded to the winning idea from each category: Innovation, Accessibility and Safety. The World's Best Washroom Contest runs from June 18 to July 31. Winners will be announced in August 2015. You can find more information on the contest at yvr.ca/washroom.
