Going Back-to-School Just Got Easier for Many Canadian Students
TORONTO, Sept. 12, 2012 /CNW/ - Staples' 7th annual School Supply Drive helped raise over $1.3 million in supplies for Canadian Students - beating last year's record - and ensuring that many Canadian students begin their academic year with everything they need to succeed.
"Investing in school supplies is symbolic of how we as Canadians can support our future leaders," said Steve Matyas, president of Staples Canada. "Every student deserves to feel empowered - providing the tools to help them do that means we've done our job."
This year, Staples retail locations partnered with more than 250 organizations and school boards in local communities across Canada to help students. In Quebec, Bureau en Gros locations supported Le Club des Petits Déjeuners, a breakfast club that assists children.
"Reaching over $1 million dollars in donations is remarkable. It demonstrates how important education is to our customers and our company," said Matyas. "We are grateful to our customers for their generosity, and proud of our associates for working so hard to make this program successful."
The fundraiser ran from July 29 to September 9 across all Staples/Bureau En Gros locations in Canada.
Each year, Staples Canada together with customers gives over two and a half million dollars in charitable donations. The company's community programs, including the School Supply Drive; "Give a Toonie. Share a Dream." Special Olympics campaign; Five Million-Cartridge Challenge, and Recycle for Education campaign are all part of the Staples community@work corporate giving initiative.
